Taiwanese local elections are scheduled to be held on November 28, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Mayor of Kaohsiung as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder Mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known, or no candidate has been elected, by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the results of the elections as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the Taiwanese government, specifically the Central Election Commission (https://db.cec.gov.tw/).Lai Jui-lung, the Democratic Progressive Party nominee, holds the strongest trader consensus in the Kaohsiung mayoral race due to the city’s long-standing DPP lean and the party’s organizational edge, though recent polling shows a tighter contest than historical patterns suggest. Multiple surveys released in August and September 2026 indicate Lai ahead of Kuomintang candidate Ko Chih-en by margins ranging from double digits in telephone polls to statistical ties in online samples, with undecided voters near 25-30 percent. Ko has consolidated opposition support while highlighting local governance concerns and fiscal issues, narrowing the gap in a traditionally DPP-dominant city where incumbent Mayor Chen Chi-mai maintains high approval. Minor candidates, including independents and smaller-party entrants registered by the September 4 deadline, register negligible support and do not appear positioned to alter the two-candidate dynamic ahead of the November 28 vote.
