In early June, Utah Senate President J. Stuart Adams publicly requested a 75% footprint reduction; O'Leary agreed to halve the site to about 20,000 acres, remove sensitive areas near Locomotive Springs, commit water to the lake, and set aside open space. Residents and a nonprofit filed suit against officials and the oversight entity, while O'Leary has accused critics of spreading misinformation or foreign influence. As of mid-June 2026, the project lacks confirmed major financing or a hyperscale partner, leaving permitting, litigation, and political negotiations unresolved and making 2026 groundbreaking unlikely under current conditions.
