A federal grand jury indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center in April 2026 on 11 counts of wire fraud, false statements to a bank, and conspiracy to commit money laundering, alleging the organization secretly channeled over $3 million in donor funds to informants affiliated with extremist groups between 2014 and 2023. The SPLC pleaded not guilty at arraignment, with a tentative trial date set for October 2026 in federal court in Alabama. Additional state-level scrutiny, including an investigation by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, has followed the charges. These confirmed DOJ actions and the scheduled proceedings form the primary basis for trader assessments of conviction odds in the case.
