The San Diego Padres enter their April 6 series opener at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates mired in an 0-3 skid through the opening weekend, exposing vulnerabilities in a rotation battered by injuries—Joe Musgrove remains on the IL post-Tommy John surgery, Jason Adam recovers from quadriceps tendon rupture, and Bryan Hoeing nurses an elbow issue, testing depth early. Pittsburgh, buoyed by home-field advantage and young core standouts like Bryan Reynolds and Oneil Cruz, counters with a fresher bullpen despite minor ailments for relievers like Chris Devenski. Trader consensus reflects Padres' pitching woes and Pirates' rest edge after lighter early scheduling, though Pittsburgh's probable starters like Paul Skenes add upset intrigue in this interleague matchup.
