The Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates meet in a three-game NL Central series beginning May 25 at PNC Park, with both clubs hovering near .500 amid a crowded division race. The Pirates enter with momentum from strong recent starts, including Braxton Ashcraft’s nine-strikeout outing, while holding a slight edge in season series history. Chicago’s rotation faces multiple absences, with Edward Cabrera day-to-day from a blister and Matthew Boyd sidelined longer term by knee surgery; outfielder Matt Shaw is also on the injured list with back tightness. Pittsburgh deals with its own pitching ailments, notably Jared Jones on the IL. Home/road splits, bullpen reliability, and divisional positioning will shape outcomes in these tightly contested games.
