**Incumbent Republican Clay Higgins faces a fragmented field in Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District open primary on November 3, 2026.** The district, rated Solid or Safe Republican by Cook, Inside Elections, Sabato’s Crystal Ball, and Decision Desk HQ, has a partisan lean of roughly R+18. Higgins won reelection in 2024 with 70.6% and has secured endorsements including from President Trump. Five additional candidates qualified after the August filing deadline: Republican Kate Cotten plus Democrats John Day, Priscilla Gonzalez, and Caleb Walker, and unaffiliated Tia LeBrun. This split opposition limits any single challenger’s ability to approach a majority. Under Louisiana’s majority-vote system, an outright first-round win requires more than 50% of the vote; otherwise the top two advance to the December 12 runoff. Trader pricing at 91.5% Yes for an outright winner reflects the strong expectation that Higgins will consolidate the dominant Republican vote share in this safely red district, consistent with historical patterns for well-funded incumbents in comparable seats. No major late developments have altered the underlying dynamics.
