State Sen. Aisha Wahab holds a clear edge in the open CA-14 race following Eric Swalwell’s departure, backed by the California Democratic Party endorsement and an early 38.5% share in the June 2 primary vote count. The top-two nonpartisan primary system on June 16 will advance the leading candidates to the August 18 special general, with Wahab facing intra-party competition from BART board member Melissa Hernandez and others while Republicans Wendy Huang and Dena Maldonado trail. Voter registration heavily favors Democrats in the Alameda County district, and recent results signal limited crossover support that could shape advancement chances.
