Recent forecasts for the August 2026 CPI release, scheduled for September 11, center on a headline month-over-month increase near 0.37–0.39 percent, driven primarily by a rebound in energy prices after July’s decline and accelerating food costs, alongside firmer shelter and services components. Core CPI projections cluster around 0.19–0.24 percent, reflecting modest goods deflation offset by persistent services inflation. Trader positioning on Polymarket, with 0.4 percent and 0.3 percent as the leading outcomes, aligns with these consensus estimates and follows July’s softer 0.1 percent headline and 0.2 percent core prints. Key near-term catalysts include gasoline price trends and any revisions to prior data ahead of the FOMC’s September meeting.
