In the May 7, 2026 United Kingdom local elections across 136 English councils contesting over 5,000 seats, the Green Party achieved historic breakthroughs, securing its first elected mayors in Hackney and elsewhere while gaining control of councils including Norwich, Norfolk City Hall, and Waltham Forest with 31 seats. Amid Labour's losses of over 200 seats and Reform UK's surge, early results show Greens netting around 287 council seats, driven by voter priorities on climate action, housing, and local services following the 2024 general election. A handful of councils remain undeclared, with final tallies determining precise outcomes amid multi-party fragmentation.
