Mark Brown's commanding position in the Cook Islands prime minister market stems from his Cook Islands Party securing 12 of 24 parliamentary seats in the August 12, 2026 general election, the largest share and enough to support formation of a fifth consecutive term government. As incumbent since 2020 and re-elected in his Takuvaine-Tutakimoa electorate, Brown benefits from party momentum and limited opposition gains, with rivals including Teariki Heather and Tina Browne trailing sharply. Trader consensus reflects this outcome's stability, though slim majorities can hinge on independent support or coalition talks. Potential shifts remain possible if final counts alter seat totals or negotiations stall before parliamentary confirmation.
