General elections are scheduled to be held in Malta on May 30, 2026. This market will resolve to the individual who is formally appointed as Prime Minister of Malta following the 2026 Maltese general election. To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed as Prime Minister of Malta following the 2026 Maltese general election. Any interim or caretaker head of government will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such Prime Minister is appointed by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Malta; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Robert Abela secured a historic fourth consecutive term for Malta’s Labour Party in the May 30, 2026 snap general election, which he called a year early citing geopolitical risks including the Iran conflict and the need for a fresh mandate to manage economic pressures. Preliminary results and official counting confirmed a comfortable majority for Labour, leading to Abela’s swearing-in as prime minister on June 1. This outcome reflects sustained voter support for the incumbent amid strong economic indicators and high turnout exceeding 87 percent. Opposition leader Sandra Gauci of the ADPD received negligible backing in the contest. Scenarios that could still alter the next prime minister include an unexpected resignation, coalition shifts within Labour, or a future leadership challenge, though none appear imminent following the decisive result.
