Trader consensus heavily favors no change to the Bank of England’s 3.75% Bank Rate at the September 17 meeting, reflecting the Monetary Policy Committee’s patient stance amid volatile energy prices tied to Middle East tensions. July’s CPI at 2.9% showed modest upside pressure from housing costs, yet core measures remained contained near 2.6% while the labor market continues to loosen. Policymakers view the inflation outlook as tilted higher but manageable without immediate tightening, consistent with the 6-3 hold vote in July and broad economist expectations for steady policy through year-end. A material escalation in energy costs or stronger-than-expected wage growth could still prompt a reassessment at future meetings.
