Incumbent Democratic Representative Henry Cuellar secured his party's nomination in the March 2026 primary with a clear majority, positioning him for the November general election against Republican nominee Tano Tijerina, the former Webb County judge who dominated his primary. Cuellar's long tenure since 2004 provides established name recognition and constituent relationships in this South Texas district, which features a mix of border communities and a modest Democratic lean reflected in recent voting patterns. Tijerina brings local Republican momentum and appeals to voters seeking change, though the race remains competitive given Texas's broader political environment. Traders assign Democrats the lead based on incumbency advantages and historical performance in the district, with the general election outcome set for November 3, 2026.
